Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille on Penalties to Secure French Super Cup in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening cup on 14 separate times.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France winners after the French winger opened the net early on.

However, the southern French side struck twice in the closing moments to take a surprise lead. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently turned the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a breathtaking turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial equaliser in the dying moments to force the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then stood as the hero, saving decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all converted successfully for PSG to seal a 4-1 shootout win.

Now 14-time champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the past thirteen seasons.
